WHAT ARE YOUR REASONS FOR USING THESE TOOLS?
My PC is rather an antique, so I had to choose products that won’t need much processing power to run. I believe that, if you use these cheap tools with a little bit of imagination, you can pull off nearly everything that more expensive applications allow you to do.
YEAR OF RELEASE: 2008
HAS YOUR FILM WON ANY AWARDS, OR SPECIAL ACCOLADES?
- Best Special Effects award at 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide
Invitational
- Festival Winner – DragonCon Film Festival Machinima ‘08
- Best Visual Design Nominee – 2008 Machinima Filmfest Awards
I was also interviewed for few websites regarding “The Demise”. Most recent achievement, was having it featured on official World of Warcraft site.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CREATING MACHINIMA? Around a year.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MOVIE MAKING?
One evening, me and my ex-girlfriend bumped into some WoW Machinima movie while browsing the internet. She knew that I’m fascinated with all kinds of computer graphics, so she encouraged me to try to make one too. After around two weeks of self-learning about functionality of video editing application and basic WoW Machinima tools, I released my first music video called “WoW Evolution”.
WHAT INSPIRED YOUR FILM?
I was inspired by the success of my two previous movies and of course by my ex-girlfriend, hehe. I was about to start creating “The Demise” when I read about the WWI 2008 Machinima contest. That mobilized me to turn my thoughts into animation as fast as I could to make it on time. Deadline was also the reason of many cuts in the film I had to take for the sake of the contest.
WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE THE STRONGEST AND/OR WEAKEST POINTS OF YOUR FILM?
One of the strongest points of “The Demise” is for sure it’s visual design. It offers a unique style not seen in any other WoW machinima.
Drama is something very rare in this field, so some consider it as a strong point. I chose this genre because I like challenges and drama in WoW machinima is something that very few have the guts to try out, mainly because they aren’t as succesful as comedy or action movies.
Weakest point of my film is for sure it’s length. Limit for the contest was 4 minutes so I had to speed up the story and do some cuts. That’s the reason why everything in it happens so fast and there are no proper transitions. The Demise is exactly 3 minutes and 59 seconds long.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING TRYING MACHINIMA?
If making movies comes across your mind, don’t hesitate and do it! Never give up and keep on improving. Don’t try to follow the mob and create what’s popular and checked, remember that your imagination is your most important tool and that’s what will make you stand out from the crowd.
HOW DO YOU SEE THE FUTURE OF MOVIE MAKING?
I haven’t been in it for long but I’ve witnessed huge improvements in that short period of time. From a low quality random footage with some song playing in the background, machinima movies has become an amazingly professional productions with voice acting, eye popping visuals and plot that sometimes exceed many Hollywood films. The only limit is our imagination. There are no lines that can’t be crossed. That’s what we should keep in mind while creating our every next movie.
We are just getting started !
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE THE VIEWER TO KNOW?
Whenever you are thinking of creating machinima, but you are afraid that you won’t be good enough, or just when going through every day life problems, keep this quote in mind :
“Those who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who try nothing and succeed” – Lloyd Jones
